1.After the discovery of electrons by J.J. Thomson, scientists thought that there should be an positively charged particle too.

2. The particles which are positively charged in a atom are today known as protons, this is also a subatomic particle.

3. Ernest Rutherford, was an British physicist, came up with an idea.

4. His concept was that there is a core inside the atom which stabilizes the atom, and holds it together.

5. This core, occupies in less volume than the rest of atom.

6. This core is called nucleus.

7. Rutherford also discovered tiny particle in the nucleus which gave positive charge.

8. He called these particle positive electrons, which later started to be known as proton.

9. Ernest Rutherford is also known as "The father of Nuclear physics". He was awarded Nobel prize in Chemistry in 1908
