What are Multiple Star and Muttnik? Random facts Part 6

Multiple star: A group of 3 or 4 stars that orbit each other bound by gravitational force. Multiple-star system are also called Trinary or Ternary if they contain three stars; they are called Quaternary if they contain if they contain four stars and so on. For example, Alpha Centauri, the third biggest star in the night sky, is a trinary star. 


Muttnik: American nickname for the dog Laika, the first animal launched on the space successfully. She was launched aboard Sputnik 2 in 1957. However, she died within few hours because of overheating. She paved the way for human being spaceflight that living being can enter into the orbit.

What is Sea of Tranquility? Random facts part 8

Have you heard about Sea if Tranquility? The landing site of Apollo 11 is called Sea of Tranquility. Apollo 11 was the first manned spaceship (spaceship which has people in it) to land on the Moon in 1969. It is a large basaltic plain that appears as a dark patch on the moon. 



SETI-  Acronym for 'Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence'. It refers the activities undertaken to search for extraterrestrial life. Astronomers use radio telescope to listen for electromagnetic signals that may have been generated by an intelligent beings elsewhere in the Universe.

Do you know about open cluster and optical telescope? In this article you are going to know about them only, so let's start.


Open cluster is a group of a few thousand stars formed from the same giant molecular cloud. These stars are loosely gravitational bound to each other. More than 1100 open clusters has been discovered in the Milky Way Galaxy. Open clusters appear as faint, blurred patches of the light to the naked eye. But are huge and are several times bigger than Earth.

An Optical telescope is that gathers and focuses light magnified image of a celestial object. There are mainly three types of telescopes: Refractors which use lenses, Reflectors which use mirrors and Catadioptric which is the mix of Refactors and Reflectors. Galileo generally credited t first use telescope for astronomy.

Orion: It is named after a hunter in Greek mythology, Orion is one of the most recognizable constellations in night sky. It contains two of the brightest stars in the sky- Rigel and Betelgeuse. This constellation is also the home to the Orionids which are meteor shower and the orion nebula, one of the brightest nebula seen by naked eye.

'What are Lunar Rover and Lyra?' - Random facts part 4

Hello friends in this article you are going to read about Lunar Rover and Lyra.

Lunar Rover - Lunar Rover is also known as moon buggy. It designed to travel on the Moon surface. So far only three countries are only rovers on the Moon- USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), USA (United States of America) and China. 

Lunokhod was the first vehicle landed on Moon by country USSR. So USSR is the first nation to make a lunar rover which reached moon's surface.

India also sent a Lunar Rover which was made in India only, but the Chandrayaan-2 crashed on the lunar(moon) surface.

Lyra - A small constellation which was first recorded by the 2nd century astronomer Ptomely. Its principal Star, Vega is one of the brightest star in the sky. Lyra also includes the star Kelper- 62 a 5 planet system discovered in April 2013.

Have you ever heard about neutron stars and nebula, you have have heard neutron star in Avengers Infinity war. Do you know what these are really? If no then you have come to correct place.

Nebula

Gigantic cloud of gas and dust, mainly of hydrogen and helium gases, in space. Astronomers believe nebulae to be nurseries of star. There are main 4 types of nebulae 

1. Planetary 

2. Reflection 

3. Emission 

4. Absorption



Neutron star 

Remnant of a massive star formed after a super nova explosion,. Neutron stars are the densest and smallest stars find by humans, measuring only 10 kilo metres across. It is tightly packed with neutrons.

1. Beijing, China: The former chairman of one of China's largest state-controlled asset management firms was sentenced to death Tuesday for soliciting $260 million in bribes, corruption and bigamy.


2. Lai Xiaomin, a former Communist Party member, gave a detailed confession on state broadcaster CCTV in January 2020, with footage of a Beijing apartment reportedly belonging to Lai replete with safes and cabinets stuffed with stacks of cash.


3. Lai, whose investigation started in April 2018, also embezzled over 25 million yuan ($3.8 million) in public funds between 2009 and 2018.

1. ISRO Chief Sivan gets one-year extension 


•K Sivan, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation and Secretary, the Department of Space, has got a 1-year extension till January 14, 2022. 

•The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet extended the tenure of Sivan for one year. 

•He joined ISRO in 1982 and was inducted into the PSLV Project. He took over as ISRO chairman in January 2018.

2. Biden names Kathleen Hicks as first woman DDS 


•President-elect Joe Biden has nominated Kathleen Hicks to be his Deputy Defence Secretary, making her the first woman to hold the post if she is approved by the Senate. 

•Hicks served in the Obama regime and was confirmed by the Senate in 2012 as the Chief Deputy Under Secretary of Defence for policy. 

•Hicks also served as the Deputy Under Secretary of Defence for strategy, plans, and forces

3. New Karnataka Chief Secretary appointed 


•P Ravi Kumar, an IAS officer of the 1984 batch, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Karnataka. 

•He will take over from incumbent T M Vijay Bhaskar, who will retire from service on December 31, 2020. 

•Kumar, who is presently the Additional Chief Secretary, will be the 38th Chief Secretary of the state.

4. Delhi government notifies a policy 


•The Delhi govt has notified the Tree Transplantation Policy. 

•Under this, agencies will have to transplant a minimum of 80 per cent of the trees affected by their development works. 

•Ten saplings will be planted for each tree transplanted or felled and the Department of Forests and Wildlife will keep a detailed and up-to-date record of applications approved for tree felling.

5. Umesh Sinha appointed Dy Election Commissioner 


•Umesh Sinha has been appointed as the Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India. 

•Sinha, a 1986-batch IAS officer (retired) of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is at present the Secretary-General in the commission. 

•Sinha is a part of a committee set up by the Election Commission to look into the issue of revising the election expenditure of candidates during campaigning.
