Safety

There is continuous Army patrolling in the city as Kupwara is in the vicinity of Line of Control (LOC). Also there is a police station situated at Kupwara-Tregram Road. Well crime against military is on hike in last few years in this region specifically stone pelting. Kupwara is on terrorist attack since 2015. Also there is natural threat of snowstorm.
History
Mythological King Putraka created Kupwara for his queen Patali. Anciently it was known as Pataligrama. Also Ajatshatru King of Magadh stayed here for long time. There are evidences that Gautam Buddha spent some time here during his last phase of life.
Well it is founded as District headquarters in 1979.
Industrial Profile
It is one of the most backward districts of India but still there are many lawful earning activities available. Industries based on the medicinal plants can be beneficial in this area as it is surrounded by forests. Also people can do agricultural work along with dairy farms of cows, buffalos. They can earn huge by domesticating sheep and goats. Woollen & silk based cloths can be manufactured. In small scale industries people can work for embroidery, wooden furniture, leather based products. Walnut Kernels, Marble , wood works, fruit jams jelly , juices and Honey etc are the exportable items.
