James michener the writer and author recalls an educational experience at swarthmore college in USA. He happend to join at a time when they were launching a new educational experiment at the end of the 2nd year the student were told to choose 2 or 3 areas of interest go to the library and learn what they could what they could. They exempted from class attendance. they were told that at the end of 2 year experts would be brought from universities like Harvard to access there self education.
The experience really taught him how to educate himself. It was beginning of life long commitment to learning. He realized that after college we should drop some learning habits picked up from the educational system. In their place a more wholesome approach. Instead of developing a one track mind one should develop a multi dimensional growth. People who read the most are the most successful regardless of there occupation if we spend our time playing football we will become good football player. If we spend our time by reading discussing and thinking we we will be a educated person.
