Futala lake is situated in Nagpur city in the vicinity of National highway number 6 and famous Telankhedi Hanuman Mandir.
A slum area known as Futala Vasti is colonized in the south direction of the lake.
If you want to learn about animal husbandry or fishery or poultry then the government institutes for this purpose are near this beautiful Futala Lake. You will love to join any course and learn things of your choice.
Satapuda botanical garden and bird watching garden are at one side of the lake sharing boundaries.
Nagpur university campus and Indira Gandhi open university center are also nearby educational organizations to this place.
This lake is spread in 60 acres of area.
Before 200 years it was built by Bhosale kings.
Till year 2003 it was a place to wash cattle as it was not maintained properly.
In 2003 Nagpur Improvement Trust decided to beautify this lake with help of state government. The funds allotted were 50-50.
Waste and weeds were removed from the lake along with construction of wall and 18m wide IRDP road on eastern side.
It is now one of the most visited picnic spot with beautiful fountains, benches, garden sides, granite paving pathway, restaurants, mobile food stores etc. Daily atleast 1000 people visit the place.
On occasion of Ganesh Visarjana, Devi Simolanghana, Friendship day, Valentines day, Independence day and Republic day the place is full of crowd and special police arrangements are needed to manage the public.
But due to immersion of Ganesha and Devi idols on large scale the lake is now subject of large cleaning project.
Many volunteers help the government during immersion time but people still use to throw Nirmalya (flowers offered to God) as well as garbage in the water of lake. People must give Nirmalya to volunteers collecting it and use dustbins for garbage. Because both are recycled by local government. Using Nirmalya every year organic fertilizer is prepared which used for roadside trees and various gardens in the city.
