Short Q & A: COI - 3

Q. 21 How many members are there in Lok Sabha?
Ans. a) Not more than five hundred and thirty members chosen from the territorial constituencies of the states, and b) Not more than twenty members to represent union territories who shall be chosen in such manner as prescribed in a parliamentary legislation.

Q. 22 Who can be a voter in India? or Define the Adult Franchise in short.
Ans. That is, an Indian citizen who is not less than eighteen years of age and who does not suffer from any disqualification under the constitution or law made by state legislatures on the ground of non-residence, unsoundness of mind, crime or corrupt or illegal practice can get himself registered as a voter & vote.

Q. 23 When president can nominate members in Lok Sabha?
Ans. the president on forming an opinion that the Anglo-Indian community is not adequately represented in the Lok Sabha can nominate not more than two members of that community to Lok Sabha as provided under Art.331.

Q. 24 Which Article of COI provides for the representation of Anglo-Indian Community in Lok Sabha?
Ans. Article 331 of COI.

Q. 25 What are the qualifications of member of parliament?
Ans. Qualifications for a person to become a member of parliament are as follows:
i) Should be a citizen of India;
ii) Should subscribe to oath…set out in schedule three of the constitution;
iii) Should possess such other qualifications as parliament may prescribe by law;

Q. 26 What is qualified age of a member of Rajya Sabha?
Ans. For a seat in Rajya Sabha, the person should not be less than thirty years of age.

Q. 27 What is qualifies age of a member of Lok Sabha?
Ans. For a seat in Lok Sabha, the person should not be less than twenty five years of age.

Q. 28 What are the disqualifications to be parliament member?
Ans. A citizen cannot become a member of either house on the following grounds-
i) If he holds any office of profit under government of India or state;
ii) If he is of unsound mind and a court of competent jurisdiction has so declared;
iii) If he is an un discharged insolvent;
iv) If he has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a foreign State or “acknowledges allegiance or adherence to a foreign State”
v) If he is disqualified by or under any law made by parliament.

Q. 29 What is oath of office and secrecy?
Ans. Before taking his seat in the house, every member of parliament shall take an oath or solemnly affirm as conforming to the format set out in the third Schedule.

Q. 30 Which schedule contains format set of oath of an MP?
Ans. Third Schedule.
