My love, never lie in love

My love, never lie in love by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay:
There was a man in a remote village. He would daily come to the town to meet his beloved. Both loved each other. Since she was a TB patient, she couldn’t walk that much to go and meet her lover in a far-flung village. The man started getting tired of coming all the way from his village to the town to meet the woman and was also scared of the, contagious disease his beloved was suffering from. He began to fabricate excuses about his inability to come and see her. One day, a child came and gave him a letter. It was written by that woman. She could see through her lover's alibis. She requested to come and meet her for the last time. The man rushed to meet her. She' was about to die. When she saw him, her last words were: ‘My love, never lie in love’ and she shuffled off the mortal coil. Struck by an intense blow of deep-piercing remorse, the man never recovered and died demented. We all have conscience and we need to keep it awake and alive.
