The angel of the battlefield



CLARA BARTON was a remarkable nurse who spent her half life on nursing service of others, even risking her life during the Civil War of USA. She is best known as finding the American Red Cross.

Clara Barton was born in 1821 in Massachusetts, USA. She was all of 10 when she resolutely nursed her injured brother to recover even when the Doctor’s give up. Clara was a shy girl to remove her shyness her parents forced her to teach children. At 17 years old she opened her own public school. During civil war she helped the soldiers by supplying medicines and bandages. But soon she started going on the battlefield as a self independent, and she cooked some meals for soldiers. The army made her nickname “Angel of Battlefield”. She worked in government war department supplying medicines and bandages.

1. While travelling in Europe she involved in the Red Cross Movement.

2. In her book “The Story of My Childhood, Barton recovers her experience in the formative work that set up her future.
