Gopal the jester started counting the furrows on the king’s forehead. There were so many! “Your majesty, what worries you?”, he asked the king.
King replied, “The ruler of the neighbouring kingdom had challenged to find out the exact metre of the Earth and number of stars in the sky. How it is possible? I will have to give all the cattle in the kingdom if I lose. That’s the deal.”
“Leave it to me!”, said Gopal, “All I need is a sheep which has to be sheared and 100 bullock carts with loads of cottons and silk thread.”
The king arranged the entire load Gopal needs. “Your honour the carts have a good load of silk and cotton thread. If you put all the strands together you will get the exact measurement of the Earth and the number of the stars in the sky is exactly the same as that of the hairs of this sheep.”
The king of neighbouring kingdom was stunned but trying to outwit Gopal, “How I believe that you are accurate?”
“You can always ask someone to check or you can do it yourself.” The king was aghast, the king ordered to give a full bag of gold coins.
Moral is that for an impossible task you have to use your common sense.
