Animals and plants of different habitats part 1

Hello friends in this article you are going to read about terrestrial habitats.

Terrestrial habitats means the habitats which are on land these include- 1. Desert, 2. Grassland and 3. Mountain region.

1. Desert- Deserts are dry and sandy. Here in day there is extreme heat and at night there is cold. Animals and plants here have to be adapted for have to be prepared for the harsh conditions. Their adaptations are-
Camel- They have long legs to escape from the heat of sand. Their dung is dry. They loose very less water by sweating or urinating.
Cactus- Cactus has a waxy coating which reduces transpiration. The stem does the process of photosynthesis. The roots are deep in the soil. It has spines instead of leaves to reduce transpiration.
Other animals- They burrow holes and live in it for day time and come out at night time. Otherwise they have scales to reduce the effect of hot sand at them.

2. Grassland- Grasslands have normal trees and they have no such adaptation, but the animals here need to be fast as there are very less places to hide. The predators (the animals which hunt other animals) have to catch prey(the animal which the predator eats). But here are some basic adaptation in both of these. For example we take lion as predator and deer as prey. Now the adaptations are-
1. Lion- They have eyes located in front of their heads which help them to see the prey. They are very fast and swift.
2. Deer- They have eyes at side of their head this helps them to see the predators. They are very fast and swift.

3. Mountain region- The mountain regions are high and cold at some places there are snow falls too. Animals and plants here are adapted as follows-
1. Mountain leopard- It is the predator of the mountain region. It has thick fur. It also has fur on its legs. It has a good balanced which help him to climb and run at high slopes.
2. Goats and cows- There are some species of goats and cows which live in the mountain region. They has thick fur. They have hoof which also help them to maintain the balance and run on high slopes. Some species of goats can even climb almost straight slopes.
